     The baptismal date and the inscription on her tombstone fix her birth in 1657. The inscription reads, 'Here lyes ye body of Mrs. Hannah Whittemore who died May 1728 aged about 76 years,' (Cambridge Epitaphs, p. 76).
     She had a cousin, Mary Langwill Ricks, who was married to Benjamin Ricks in Boston, MA, 23 Feb 1715/16 (Wyman's Genealogies and Estates of Charlestown, p. 1027).1

     Her married name was Whittemore.

     He was probably a maltster, or brewer, in London, who settled in Hitchin, County Hertfordshire, England, after retiring from business. The first Whittemore entry into the records at Hitchin is dated 1560. He had relatives in London. (New England Genealogical Register 32:22.)
     He had a brother, William, born 1540 and a brother Rowland, died 1613. (New England Genealogical Register 21:169.)
     The records at Hitchin show that he was a widower when he was buried in 1617. (New England Genealogical Register 21:170.)
     He married Mary Meade in 1566. He was buried 26 Nov 1617. (Should be April -- J.S.L., furnished my Mary P. Whittemore, 210 Harold St., Roxbury, MA, from the papers of her father, Thomas F. Whittemore.) According to Hitchin Parish records, '1617 April, the 26 day was buried Thomas Whittemore, widower, who by his will dated the 5th day of May 1613, gave £20 to Trustees for the best sort of poor people in Hitchin.' (Whittemore Genealogy 1893, p. 4.)
