Dear wife and children. It is through the tender mercy of God that I have the opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that I am in good health. I hope when this comes to have it may find you and the children in good health. I want to see you and the children mighty bad. The Lord send that I could get a letter from you once more. The last letter I got from you you wrote it the 4 of June and I was sorry to hear that you was so bad dis satisfied . I tried to get to come home but I could not get off. I say to you write often for I know you have not got the money. I have not any way to send you any. If I do see any chance I will send you for to feed them boys till I get there. God send I may see you and them soon is my prayer.[br]

Mr. Thomas Par is dead and I Cottin Glass and Hyman and John Biter. I cannot tell how many more for every Buddy is here that is so much fuss I hear I can’t think of nothing. I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am in good health at this time hoping when this comes to have it may find you enjoying the same blessing. I have not had a letter from Eliza Jane since the first of June. She wrote to me that she was bad dissatisfied there and also that she was imposed on and could not get away from there. I received her letter the 20th of August. I have tried to get a furlough and could not do it. If I can hear from her again and her and my children has to be deviled back by infernal scums I will desert the army and come home and die with them. I never knowed what trouble was be fore. I cannot hear from my family much less see them.[br]

I have got money now if she had it. We are on a march north towards Memphis Tennessee. I don’t know where we will go to. They say we will have to fight some in a few days unless the Federals leave Corinth before we get there. I want you to help Eliza and the children all you can and you shall not lose anything by that if I should be so lucky to get home. Tell the old lady she and Betty must try to get them down there and take care of them till I get there. Tell Betty I saw Bud. It has been a month or more ago. I run two miles to see him and got to be with him about 10 minutes. He took the cars. They said they were agoing to Mobile. I have not heard from them since. I can go to my fathers in two days from here but I have rather see Eliza and the children more than to see everybody in the world. I feel like they are all the friends that I got in the world. I am determined to come home when my twelve months is out if not before should I live to see that time. I am in as fine health now you ever saw me. My weight is 152 pounds. That is the same did since I have been out. Tell Eliza to write to me as soon as she can and let me know how she is getting along and if she can not get along I will come in spite of my life. You all must write to me and let me know what the times is there. There is so much fuss here I can not think of nothing. Tell Eliza if she wants money I can put some in a letter and start it to her. Write soon as you get this. Write your letter to Saltila, Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Tell Eliza I am agoing to try to come home this fall if I can get off. Dirson?? Is my Captain Doctryu??      Mitchell Joel Moore was born on 21 March 1854 at Barbour, Alabama, USA. He married Lucy Louie Hall on 17 October 1878 at Red River, Louisiana, USA. Mitchell Joel Moore died on 21 February 1950 at Red River, Louisiana, USA, at age 95.

     Her married name was Moore.
Lucy Louie Hall was born on 16 January 1862 at Arcadia, Bienville, Louisiana, USA. She married Mitchell Joel Moore, son of George Wright Moore and Eliza Jane Giddens, on 17 October 1878 at Red River, Louisiana, USA. Lucy Louie Hall died on 27 March 1913 at Ringgold, Bienville, Louisiana, USA, at age 51.

     Served in War of 1812 and applied for bounty land in Alabama. His application was never processed because they had no lands available. Land Warrant #57490[br]

Jacob Giddins was born on 18 September 1794 at Wayne, North Carolina, USA. He married Eliza Waters in April 1817 at Marion, Twiggs, Georgia, USA. Jacob Giddins died on 7 December 1873 at Bienville, Louisiana, USA, at age 79.

     Her married name was Giddins.
Eliza Waters was born on 3 June 1804 at North Carolina, USA. She married Jacob Giddins, son of John Giddens and Sally Taylor, in April 1817 at Marion, Twiggs, Georgia, USA. Eliza Waters died on 15 October 1880 at Campti, Nachitoches, Louisiana, USA, at age 76.
