I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am in good health at this time hoping when this comes to have it may find you enjoying the same blessing. I have not had a letter from Eliza Jane since the first of June. She wrote to me that she was bad dissatisfied there and also that she was imposed on and could not get away from there. I received her letter the 20th of August. I have tried to get a furlough and could not do it. If I can hear from her again and her and my children has to be deviled back by infernal scums I will desert the army and come home and die with them. I never knowed what trouble was be fore. I cannot hear from my family much less see them.[br]

I have got money now if she had it. We are on a march north towards Memphis Tennessee. I don’t know where we will go to. They say we will have to fight some in a few days unless the Federals leave Corinth before we get there. I want you to help Eliza and the children all you can and you shall not lose anything by that if I should be so lucky to get home. Tell the old lady she and Betty must try to get them down there and take care of them till I get there. Tell Betty I saw Bud. It has been a month or more ago. I run two miles to see him and got to be with him about 10 minutes. He took the cars. They said they were agoing to Mobile. I have not heard from them since. I can go to my fathers in two days from here but I have rather see Eliza and the children more than to see everybody in the world. I feel like they are all the friends that I got in the world. I am determined to come home when my twelve months is out if not before should I live to see that time. I am in as fine health now you ever saw me. My weight is 152 pounds. That is the same did since I have been out. Tell Eliza to write to me as soon as she can and let me know how she is getting along and if she can not get along I will come in spite of my life. You all must write to me and let me know what the times is there. There is so much fuss here I can not think of nothing. Tell Eliza if she wants money I can put some in a letter and start it to her.
