OpinionI began working as assistant sports editor and outdoor columnist for The (Petersburg, Va.) Progress-Index in February 2004. Prior to that, I rarely got the opportunity to express my opinion in print, but when I worked for the Morris County, N.J., Daily Record, I got tired of listening to one blowhard legislator in New Jersey mangle history and had to speak up. NOTE: The sports reports and features from The Progress-Index appear on the Sports page. Some of the outdoor reports appears on the News page. |

An op-ed piece -- in response to the usual outrageous comments by one of New Jersey's dumbest conservative state legislators -- on the need for affirmative action to counteract entrenched racism, which appeared in the July 16, 1997, edition of the Daily Record: Racism lives today, and so does the need for affirmative action |
