     William Mixson was born in Virginia in 1705. He moved with his family at an early age to North Carolina. As early as about 1730 he married Frances _____. Frances was born about 1715 and was still living in Orangeburg District, South Carolina, in 1800. William Mixson received a patent in 1743 of 200 acres of land on Severson Creek, on the east side of the Pungo River (1). He was a juror in Hyde County, North Carolina in 1744. He sold his land in Hyde County in 1744. He moved to Craven County, North Carolina, where he entered a 300 acre grant on the north side of the Neuse River. William sold this land in 1769 and moved to Kershaw District, South Carolina, where he received a grant of 200 acres on 30 Oct 1772. His will was probated on 13 Jan 1783 (1). According to his will all his children were: Prudence, John, Elizabeth, Frances, Michael, Sabrah, and George.

In 1785, he sold his lands in Kershaw County which he had inherited from his father. He moved down the south fork of the Edista River in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, just over the line from Barnwell. He obtained several tracts of land amounting to greater than 1,000 acres.
