For over 20 years he has been Standing Master in Chancery fo the United States Circuit Court. He has been secretary, treasurer and president of the Peninsular Club of Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Police and Fire Commission, and for the last year of the term its President. He was elected Library Commissioner and is now President of the Board. For a number of years he took an active part in national politics and has been a candidate for the State Senate, Congress and for Regent of the State University; but 'Democrats do not get elected to office in Michigan.' He was a delegate at large to the National Democrat Convention at Indianapolis in 1896; and has since been in political retirement.
